This is my first substack post and I'm diving right into one of my most recent life pleasures: learning to read sustainably.
1) Get a library card
It's free. What are you waiting for? You can access physical books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, and ebooks.
2) PSA for the Kindle owners
There are other ways to read books on your Kindle that do not require purchasing through Amazon or Kindle Unlimited subscriptions. Did you know you can borrow free ebooks? The caveat is that loans expire in 21 days, after which you can borrow a copy again, if available.
3) Trade your books for money/ rewards
Trade old books at your local bookstore or stores like Half Price Books for reward points to get more books! I've done this many times and am always surprised to find secondhand books that are basically new.
4) Buy secondhand books
I love Thriftbooks because you get to choose the condition of your books before buying (you won't be surprised upon delivery, that's for sure!). Facebook Marketplace is another option. Local libraries often host book sales as well.
5) Books swaps
Swap books with your reader bestie. It makes reading more fun (and sustainable).
